Melody Dawn Saffel, 24, passed away on September 5, 2011 in an automobile accident in the Lakeland, Florida area.
Melody was born to Martin R. Saffel and Sheila (Banks) Saffel in Olney, Illinois on December 12, 1986. While Melody spent most of her life on the constant move due to her mother’s unstable lifestyle and had few friends, if you were considered a friend of hers, you were held in a special place in her heart. In addition to her spending time with her special friends, she enjoyed art, music, and long summer days at the beach. Melody was known by many for her beautiful drawings, and her unconditional love of animals.
Melody was accompanied in death by a very special friend of hers named Justin D. Crum, who also perished in the accident. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Doreen and John Saffel; and her step grandfather, Wilbert Moser, and many great grandparents on all sides of her family.
She was survived by two children, Emily Rodriguez cared for by her grandmother Judy Rodriguez and her father Sergio Rodriguez of Jacksonville FL, and Matthew H. Quick cared for by his father Kevin Quick and wife Melissa Quick of Jacksonville, FL; brother, Michael Saffel of Wakonda, SD; sister, Laura (Banks) DeArmond; father, Martin Saffel and wife, Vicki (Moser) Saffel of Wakonda, SD; mother, Sheila (Banks) Saffel; maternal grandparents, Patricia and Leroy Saunders of Salisbury, NC; step grandmother, Delvonna Moser of Yankton, SD and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who loved her.
A Prayer Service will be held on October 8, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. St. Benedicts Catholic Church, Yankton SD.
