LAKE ANDES — Funeral Mass for Lawrence D. Soukup, 78 of rural Lake Andes will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 22, 2010 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Wagner.
Visitation will be at the Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Wagner from 12 noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, followed by a 7 p.m. Rosary/Wake at the church.
Lawrence David Soukup, son of Joseph and Helen (Kocer) Soukup, was born August 9, 1932 at Wagner. He died Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Lawrence attained the age of 78 years, three months and nine days.
Lawrence attended school through the eighth grade and then began farming and ranching with his family. He served in the United States Army for two years.
Lawrence married Shirley Cihak on April 12, 1955. Four children were blessed to their union. They ranched and farmed in the Lake Andes area all of their married life.
Lawrence was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Wagner, Knights of Columbus, Rollie Bucholz VFW Post #7319 and the Piedmontese Association.
Lawrence will be remembered for his love of his wife, children and grandchildren. He enjoyed taking them to rodeos, rounding up a bunch of kids to go on cattle round-ups in Aladdin, WY, lining up trail rides, fishing in Canada, showing his Piedmontese cattle, playing cards and watching the Twins.
Thankful for having shared his life are his wife Shirley of Lake Andes; his children: Jackie Brecke and husband David of Wagner; Roger and wife Marjo of Lake Andes; Kim Dyce and husband Arlyn of Rapid City; and Jay and wife Lori of Eckville, Alberta Canada; 14 grandchildren; brother Fred and wife Florence of Wagner; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents.
