TYNDALL — An Avon man died in a three-vehicle crash west of Tyndall Wednesday.
According to the Bon Homme County sheriff’s office, Todd Schwering was riding a 2001 Harley Davidson motorcycle west on S.D. Highway 50, five miles west of Tyndall. He approached from behind a slow-moving westbound 1978 John Deere farm tractor driven by Anthony Eben of Tyndall. The tractor was towing a three-point mounted sprayer and a disengaged sprayer boom.
As Schwering entered the eastbound lane to pass the farm tractor, which was traveling about 18 miles per hour, he struck a portion of the sprayer which caused him to crash his motorcycle. Schwering was separated from his motorcycle and came to rest laying in the eastbound lane.
Duane Rothschadl of Tyndall was driving a 2009 Mercury Grand Marquis eastbound on Highway 50 with his wife. As he approached the tractor — which was now parked on the westbound shoulder of the road — his vehicle ran over Schwering laying in the roadway.
No further information is immediately available.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating. Bon Homme County Sheriff’s Office, Tyndall Police Department, Tyndall Fire Department and the Tyndall Ambulance assisted.
