Bryan Slaba, formerly the Chief Financial Officer for Wagner Community Memorial Hospital/Avera, has been named Chief Executive Officer. Slaba, who had been CFO for WCMH for the past months, will replace Connie Wagner who is stepping down after two years in Wagner.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Recently, the Better Hearing Institute (BHI) launched a new website as part of its campaign to spur passage of a federal tax credit of up to $500 per hearing aid for boomers, seniors and parents of children with hearing loss. About 40 percent of people who do not use hearing aids, according to a recent BHI national study, are more likely to purchase them in the near future if the tax credit were available.

Children are now required to have a visual evaluation before entering school for the first time in Nebraska, just as they are required to have a physical examination. The new law is designed to provide an evaluation of the child's vision that is more complete than vision screenings, enabling parents, healthcare providers and schools to better identify children whose vision may not be sufficient to enable the child to learn to his or her full potential. The examination must include testing for: Amblyopia (lazy eye), Strabismus (turned eyes), Internal eye health, External eye health and Visual Acuity.
