Parker Girls Advance To Big East Final

BALTIC — The Parker Pheasants fought off a big deficit from the beginning of the game and outscored the Baltic Bulldogs 11-2 in the overtime period to claim a 72-63 second round win in the Big East Conference Tournament.

Parker was led by Micalanne Hanten’s double-double, 16 points and 10 rebounds. Alycia Pesicka chipped in another 16 for the Pheasants, Morgan Hay had 12 points and eight assists, and Anna Leloux had 10 points and 11 rebounds. Parker trailed 26-9 after the first quarter.

Baltoc was led by Morgan Forsch with 22 points, seven assists, and four steals. Allie Walter added 20 points and eight rebounds for the Bulldogs.

Both teams take the court in Sioux Valley today (Saturday). Baltic plays Chester and Parker faces Sioux Valley.

Garretson 43, Flandreau 39

BALTIC — The Garretson Blue Dragons started the game with a rush of scoring and held on to that lead throughout, as they beat the Flandreau Fliers 43-39 in the Big East Conference Tournament.

Garretson led 14-6 after the first quarter. The Blue Dragons were led by Haley Edmundson with 16 points. Sydney Gibson added nine points and eight rebounds.

Brook Relf ended the night with nine points and 10 rebounds for Flandreau. Brice Rose also scored nine points for the Fliers.

Each team taked the floor today (Saturday) in Sioux Valley. Garretson faces McCook Central-Montrose, and Flandreau plays Howard.

Wagner 48, Scotland 29

WAGNER — Devon Brecke scored 16 points to lead top-ranked Class A Wagner past Class B Scotland 48-29 in girls’ basketball action on Friday night in Scotland.

Jessa Doom added 14 points, eight rebounds and three steals for the Red Raiders (15-0), while LaShawn Medicine Horn had 10 points and six rebounds.

Nicole Weber dished out assists for Wagner, which led 25-10 at halftime.

In the loss for the Lady Highlanders (10-4), Kennidy Asche had 10 points and six rebounds, Aisha Abbink scored nine points and Carley Skorepa chipped in with five points.

Scotland plays Alcester-Hudson in the Cornbelt Classic today (Saturday) in Freeman. Wagner next plays Andes Central.

The Red Raiders won the JV game 40-28 and the ‘C’ game 30-21.

Parkston 69, Avon 39

PARKSTON — The Parkston Trojans jumped out to an early lead on their way to defeating Avon 69-39 in girls’ basketball action on Friday.

Parkston, which led 18-4 after one quarter, was led by Erica Herrold’s 21 points. Senior Marie Malloy added 20 points for the Trojans (10-3) and Logan Wagner had 16 points and nine assists.

Chesney Nagel led the Lady Pirates (6-6) with 12 points. Lanae Van Gerpen chipped in 10 points.

Parkston travels to Salem on Tuesday to take on McCook Central-Montrose. Avon plays at Menno on Tuesday.

Parkston also won the JV contest.

Tri-Valley 51, Elk Point-Jefferson 44

COLTON — Senior Nicole Fritz scored 15 points to lead Tri-Valley over Elk Point-Jefferson 51-44 on Friday night in Colton.

Sammy Kasowski added 12 points and seven rebounds for the Mustangs (13-3). Allison cross had 10 points and seven rebounds.

For the Huskies, Keely Bertram scored 16 points and Haylee Erickson added 12 and had eight rebounds.

Tri-Valley hosts West Central in Colton on Tuesday. Elk Point-Jefferson, 3-11, travels to Lennox on Thursday.

BERESFORD — Alison Klostergaard led Beresford to a 38-18 win over Lennox.

Klostergaard, who scored her 1,000th point last week against Tea, scored a game-high 12 points on the night. Taryn Twite netted 11 points.

Lennox’s Taylor Kruse posted five points.

Beresford (12-2) travels to Vermillion Tuesday. Lennox (2-11) travels to North Sioux City to face Dakota Valley.

South Central 52, Tripp-Delmont-Armour 41

TRIPP — South Central out-rebounded Tripp-Delmont-Armour by 17 on its way to a 52-41 win Friday night.

South Central’s Ashley Green led the team with eight rebounds and five steals. Chloe Kenzi added five boards.

TDA’s Kelly Batterman posted five rebounds. Hannah Just stole the ball five times.

South Central (5-7) travel to Corsica Tuesday. TDA travels to Marty Friday.

R.C. Stevens 47, Brookings 45

BROOKINGS — Rapid City Stevens shot 54 percent from the field on their way to a 47-45 victory over Brookings on Friday night in Class AA girls’ basketball action.

Margaret McCloud led the Raiders with 22 points, 11 rebounds, and four steals.

The Bobcats were led by Amelia Miller’s 11 points.

Rapid City Stevens, 5-7, plays at Watertown today (Saturday). Brookings, 2-11, hosts Rapid City Central today (Saturday).

PIERRE — Spearfish suffered their second loss of the season as Pierre had three players in double digits in Friday nights 50-44 loss.

Pierre’s Sydney Palmer led the team with 19 points. Kate Severyn recorded a double-double on the night with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Spearfish’s Brittain Burditt led the team with 11 points. Miranda Meeker and Kaitlyn Hinch each added 10 points.

Pierre (3-10) hosts Sturgis today (Saturday). Spearfish (9-2) hosts Lead-Deadwood Tuesday.
