2008 ‘Lending A Hand’ Grant Awards Are Presented

The Yankton School District 63-3 Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to promoting and maintaining the development of the educational programs of Yankton Public Schools and a high quality education for students of all ages in Yankton, recently awarded 28 “Lending a Hand” grants to the following teachers in the Yankton Public School system:

• Beadle Elementary — Sue May, Amy Neu, Cynthia Gorman, Mary Beth Herrboldt, Lori LaFave, Paula Weydert, LeaAnn Schramm and Team First Grade;

• Lincoln Elementary — Deb Andera, Katie Greene, Arlene Stoebner, Laura Williamson, Cecilia Fitzsimmons, Deb Reiner and Grades K-2;

• Stewart Elementary — Marsha Bertsch, Julie Jensen and Dawn Mueller;

• Webster Elementary — Nikki Vondracek, Robin Brooks, Lynn Moser and Amy Bruening;

• Beadle/Webster Elementary — Nikki Heinz;


• Yankton Middle School — Brooks Schild, Doug Winstead, Maria May, Carol Larrington and Cheryl Schaeffer;

• Yankton High School — Sandra Hoffner and Jill Mikkelsen.

Applications ranged from educational toys and games, science models and materials, reader’s theatre/play scripts, leveled reading books, digital cameras, library books, and calculators; to music materials, development of a special library/reading area, and outdoor classroom development, for a total of $7,250.

It is the goal of the Foundation to fund items that may not be funded through other means and to continue to focus on promoting positive, well-equipped learning environments for all children in the Yankton Public School system.

The 2009 Board of Directors includes: Roger Smith (President), Celia Miner (Vice President), Judy Tereshinski (Secretary), Aaron Ness (Treasurer), Dr. Jay Hubner, Dr. Bill Dendinger, Rob Klimisch, Jim Robinson, and ex-officio members Dr. Joe Gertsema, Bob Winter, Jason Bietz, Doug Ekeren, and Pauline Rhoades.
