Meeting Minutes
VFW Ladies Auxiliary
President Dorothy Stanage opened the VFW Ladies Auxiliary meeting. District One Representatives Barb Kronaizl, Bonnie Albers, and Delores Gregg were introduced. Thank You Notes from Mary Hammond, Verna Hojem Family, Jesse Ekeren, Robert King Family and Carol Reisner were read.
Jane Slowey reported that cards, rose bowls and In Memoriams were sent to members. Auxiliary members sent three In Memoriams. Christensen reported on stamps and safety. Donna Mellem reported 35 volunteers worked bingo parties at Majestic Bluffs.
Unfinished business: One hundred people were served a luncheon after the bridge dedication. Eight volunteers marched in the High School Homecoming parade. Six volunteers visited the Wakonda Nursing Home.
New business: Make A Difference Day: Pine Lane would like the auxiliary to have a bingo party Saturday, Nov. 8. Seven volunteers will serve cupcakes. Quarters will be given as prizes. President Stanage mentioned Veteran’s Day, Nov. 11. The social hour is 6 to 7 p.m. Dinner at 7 p.m., free to all 2008-09 members. Retreat will be at 4 p.m.
Jane Slowey stated the Human Service Center needs large size men’s and women’s clothing. Give to either Jane Slowey or President Stanage. Slowey also mentioned there were seven different programs for Veterans and Family Support. Twenty-five dollars was allowed for each program.
Dorothy Anderson and Muriel Aaen each won the drawings for one-year free dues. Idella Poeshl won the 10-cent cup.
Barb Kronaizl gave a brief description of what each committee should be doing. President Stanage then presented her with a gift.
Yankton Area Christian Writers
The October meeting of the Yankton Area Christian Writers was held on Oct. 27 at Pine Lanes East with the president, Joy Winther, presiding. A self-written devotion and prayer was given by Arda Hoffman.
Since we do not meet in December, discussion was held regarding the November Christmas party. It was decided that everyone would bring two dozen cookies for a cookie tasting and exchange. Coffee will be furnished by Pine Lane or bring your own tea bag.
The afternoon’s program consisted of interesting and delightful sharing of pieces entitled, “What My Mother Taught Me.”
Our program for November will be holiday readings entitled, “The Christmas (or Thanksgiving) I’ll Always Remember.” This meeting will be held on Mon., Nov. 24, 2:30 p.m., at Pine Lane East, 2905 Douglas Ave. Guests are welcome. Yankton Area Christian Writers is open to all who want to pursue writing that will honor God. Questions? Call 665-3140.
Yankton Area Retired Teachers
Yankton Area Retired Teachers met Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008, at Hillcrest Country Club, with 37 in attendance. President Marilyn Kratz presided.
Gene Bormann gave a program about the dams on the Missouri River and endangered species dependent upon the river.
Malena Diede was introduced as a new member.
Kratz announced Lobby Day in Pierre for Jan. 26, 2009. She also informed the group that Nelva Kooistra will finish out the year as secretary.
Door prizes were provided by Nelva Kooistra. Myrtle Anderson provided the quiz. Door prizes were won by LaVila Tessier, Gwen Van Gerpen, Nancy Kunkel, Dick Anderson, and Darwin Tessier. Pat Schulze won the drawing for five gold dollars.
Kratz gave a green tip and wished everyone a happy holiday season. The next meeting will be Mar. 5 with Pam Kettering as speaker.
