• The distribution of more than $42,000 of beer revenue to South Dakota counties for relief purposes was announced today by State Treasurer Frank Siewert. Yankton County will receive $1,014.97.
• Henry Hladky, star football and track man at Yankton High School two years ago, put on a one-ring show for Tabor Sunday as he held Wagner hitless through nine innings, hit a triple and scored two runs to give the Tabor Bluebirds a 3-1 win over one of their bitterest rivals.

• Red China today faced the prospect of having its homeland bases blasted by U.S. bombers if it tried to start a war in the Formosa straits. If things come to that, what China might start as a limited brush fire war could ignite a raging combat threatening to engulf the whole world — conceivably even a universally dreaded all-out atomic conflict.
• A 1959 city budget of $632,995 was approved by the Yankton City Commission earlier this week. Of that amount, $220,573 is to be raised through taxes.
